Overview

Holy Name's hospice program is an integral part of the Medical Center's Supportive Care services. The hospice program provides personalized and compassionate care for patients with a life-limiting illness that no longer responds to treatment. It is designed to enhance the quality of life for the patient and their loved ones, rather than seeking a cure.

The core of hospice is based on a cooperative effort by family, friends and a team of professional and volunteer caregivers working together to meet the multiple needs of the patient. Holy Name's hospice team is comprised of highly trained and skillful professionals, who provide clinical expertise to allay fears and provide comfort and peace of mind for patients and their caregivers.

Choosing hospice care may be a difficult decision for some, while for others it is a natural progression of life's journey. Regardless of how patients come to hospice care, Holy Name's inter-disciplinary approach is designed to provide pain relief and management of physical symptoms as well as emotional and spiritual support.

While most patients who choose hospice care receive services in their own home, Holy Name also offers a residential hospice center, Villa Marie Claire, located in Saddle River, NJ. Patients have private rooms, with accommodations for overnight guests in separate living quarters, and loved ones are encouraged to spend time in the spacious living room, patio, bucolic grounds and swimming pool. For information on Villa Marie Claire, go to http://www.villamarieclaire.org.

The hospice team includes:

  • Physicians
  • Visiting registered nurses
  • Social workers
  • Inter-faith clergy
  • Bereavement counselors
  • Home health aides and volunteers
  • Hospice doulas
