Dr. Rehan Shamim is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with specialized training in the most advanced techniques in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. He has devoted extra time and training to specializing in shoulder, elbow, and knee surgery. He cares for patients at various ages and stages, from aspiring athletes, to active middle-aged adults, to elderly patients with serious injuries. Regardless of who he is treating, he takes pride in providing a nuanced approach to each patient’s circumstances to make for a seamless and swift recovery. Dr. Shamim says the most rewarding part of his job is seeing people’s progress.
A New Jersey native, Dr. Shamim earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at Rutgers University. He served as president of his medical school class and was inducted to the esteemed Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, reserved for the top echelon of medical students. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and then went on to complete a fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles. While there, he served as a team physician for the prestigious UCLA Division I sports teams.
Dr. Shamim has worked in both large and small healthcare settings and says that Holy Name is the best of both worlds, providing high-quality care that is also patient-centered.
Dr. Shamim is a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and frequently lectures on orthopedic topics. He is involved in the community and serves as the school physician for the Tenafly and Bogota School Districts. In his free time, he enjoys coaching his son’s travel baseball team, which won the district championship in Fall 2023. He also enjoys skiing and cheering on his two sons at their baseball games, basketball games, soccer games and wrestling meets.
